Gregg Masters is an inspirational author, thinker and speaker who's daily thoughts, blog and more are known as "A Common Man's Wisdom." Gregg's professional life, whether in Radio, Television or any of his other jobs, allowed him to travel and explore both places and people of all kinds. Ironically, it wasn't these experiences that had the biggest impact on him. In 2008, Gregg suffered a disabling back injury. During this time, Gregg was presented with the option to look at life with anger and cynicism over his injury and pain or to look for the opportunities it might present. He chose the latter. After looking within himself and as he says "Seeing what I was made of, and what made me tick," Gregg began sharing some of his thoughts. First on Facebook, Twitter and with others he was speaking to. As Gregg's thoughts, insights, and understanding continued to grow so did his social media presence. Soon, he began collecting his thoughts, ideas, affirmations and meditations in a series of books titled "A Common Man's Wisdom."

FOCUS doesn’t just happen with your eyes!

      Focus is a word we take much too lightly! It’s what we focus on in life that moves us in a particular direction. If there is a problem, past or present, we need to focus on that problem or challenge, not the challenge or imagined “what if’s” that are surrounding it. Next, focus on what you can learn from that problem. That sounds kind of strange doesn’t it? Well unless we understand what the problem is, we’ll never be able to move past it! Shift your focus for a moment past that problem and actually feel how satisfying and wonderful it will feel once you succeed and get past it! Ask questions of yourself and of others and focus on their answers so you can learn. (When you focus and ask questions, you grow wiser.) Just like we need contact with other humans, we also need private time. Give yourself the gift of time so you can focus on what is important in your life, even if it’s 2 or 3 minutes. Focusing on relaxation is something you deserve!!! Don’t ever let others or yourself make you feel bad for allowing yourself the time to build a better you. Finally, human beings come “pre-wired” to be happy, it’s how we’re born. During our lives, we find every way possible to be negative but under it all, gratitude, & happiness is there waiting whenever we’re done ignoring them. This is where our focus needs to continually be trained on. Focusing on the positives, no matter how big or small will lead you to a direction that holds more positives and more successes. Summer Travel=Unexpected Caring

                    With Summer approaching, many of us will be packing the car or RV or our suitcases for a relaxing and fun trip somewhere. It might be a short trip or one that lasts the entire season. Sometimes it might be a vacation somewhere nice and sometimes, your traveling takes you to a whole different part of the world. So I thought I’d make a suggestion…   HELP SOMEBODY WHILE YOU’RE AT IT!   *****Take a few extra minutes when you’re planning your trip to see what schools or hospitals might be close by where you’ll be staying. Place a call to them or the local Chamber of Commerce or Rotary Club and ask them what they or someone in their town might need. I’m talking coloring books, soccer balls, toys for young kids, etc… a family or two who might benefit from a night out at a local restaurant. Then, when you travel…take something to give – supplies for that school, books for a Children’s Hospital, supplies for a day care center, a gift card for that family, etc… It won’t take that much time out of your travels and the cost can range from a dollar or two on up. (Maybe a night of fast food on your trip instead of going to a nice restaurant is all it would take). Think of all the good you might be doing. This can be done any and every time you travel whether a day trip or much longer. If your part of a group…school or church etc… Then what a great gift you’ve just given to an unsuspecting and much deserving recipient! I hope you might embrace my idea. Feel free to post it on your page, share this blog and of course tell your friends about it. Take pictures of what you did, share those pictures with us all on your social media pages. This way, a part of you will carry on wherever you go and maybe the idea will become a practice… Just one other quick thought… This idea isn’t one that can only be done if you’re traveling this Summer. If you’re staying home, you can do the same thing! Hospitals, School Districts, a teacher you might personally know, etc… would all benefit in your town.   Good luck and in advance of your good hearted gifts, let me say thank you…   Peace…     Gregg      


MUST. STAY. ON. SCHEDULE…

    We all spend a lot of time scheduling our lives. We have a meeting here or the kids have practice there, we need to pick the dry cleaning up here, Aunt Edna is coming on this date, call this person or that person and so on, and so on, and so on… The important question isn’t what we’re scheduling, but as we’re busy scheduling, are we actually spending enough time living our lives. Remember, just because we schedule something doesn’t mean we’re living those moments. Many times, we get to those things we’ve scheduled and then simply move through them, sometimes with contempt, instead of “experiencing” them and truly living them. What’s the use in scheduling it, if we then don’t “experience” it when it happens!?! Most of the time this is because we’re focused on what we’ve scheduled next or we’re frustrated that they’ve even been scheduled at all. There comes a time when we need to stop for a second and ask ourselves this question… “Are we getting anything out of all of this scheduling?” When is the last time you didn’t check your emails or your cell phone for notifications? When was the last time you watched a sunset or sunrise without being conscious of the time or where you had to be? When was the last time you paid attention to your family and what they’re doing and saying without glancing at your phone or the scroll at the bottom of the television? These are just three questions and there are hundreds more, all of which can be boiled down to this… “When was the last time you lived life the way that life was meant to be lived?” Have the courage to stop and breathe. Have the courage to listen to the life around you instead of your notifications. Have the courage to listen to those in your life, even when you’re busy, tired or distracted. Have the courage to take a step back, take a breath and see the entire picture of your life instead of focusing only on a small “piece of the pie.” Have the courage to do your best, to be the person you’ve truly hoped to be, the person that if you stepped back and looked at, you’d be proud of. It all happens one step at a time and might not be easy. However, once you start, momentum begins and things will get easier. Once you begin, your life isn’t the only one that will get better. Those around you will notice the difference and be affected by your decisions. Then, the world around them will change too, and you’ve begun the ripples of positive change. So, while scheduling is a necessity in our lives, actually learning to live our lives and soak in what’s around us is a much bigger necessity. All of this begins with changing our mindset.
