grateful

Too often we forget that it feels good to feel good!

Too often we forget that it feels good to feel good! Man, does that sound like a stupid thing to say…or is it?

It seems whenever something goes wrong in our life, we completely throw ourselves into the feelings of anger, sadness, frustrations, etc. We carry these feelings with us long after the problem has passed. We remember them and hold them as we move forward. We tell others about the problem and time after time after time, recount and replay it!

Yet, when the good things happen in life, we smile about them, laugh, enjoy them at the time. Then we move on. There is no long-term throwing ourselves into the feelings of gratitude or thankfulness or joy.

Happy Thanksgiving…or is it?

What a great time of the year. The weather cools while the family gathers around. Each Thanksgiving we marvel at the amount of food on the table in front of us and are grateful for the love that is all around us. So, yes… HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Or is it? Thanksgiving is supposed to be what I just described but for so many, that isn’t the case. We throw the greeting around without thinking about those we meet and talk to, especially our friends. “HAPPY Thanksgiving! Are you going to have a big get together at your place this year?” The only problem with that is that many won’t be having a Happy Thanksgiving or a get together surrounded by friends and family.

While many of us will be trying to figure out how to fit all the food on the table, many, many others, yes…even some of your friends that you would never imagine, have little or no food. Imagine instead of turkey, looking in a mostly bare refrigerator and deciding between what’s left of the bologna or a can of soup. Sounds like I’m overstating it? I’m not.

Election Stress

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but there is an election going on in the United States. According to an October 13th survey from the American Psychological Association, more than half of Americans feel significantly stressed because of this election.

Every day we’re barraged with fear and hate mongering, with the two sides constantly pointing fingers at each other, refusing to answer questions about the issues many want to hear more about, and so much more. All of this is leading to anxiety and stress causing some to feel some discomfort and others, to feel a full-fledged anxiety attack. Before you start pointing fingers at the other side on this, this significant stress is being felt by both Republicans and Democrats.
